How to choose the right Sea‑Doo SWITCH Pontoon Boat?

You’ve finally settled on the Sea-Doo SWITCH as your family’s next pontoon boat, but you’re still wondering which model will fit your needs like a glove. Don’t worry, keep reading and we’ll walk you through how to choose a Sea‑Doo SWITCH model that’s perfect for everyone.

What are the Sea-Doo Switch models?

Sea-Doo SWITCH pontoons are offered in three different models: SWITCHSWITCH CRUISE and SWITCH SPORT. Each comes in a variety of lengths and engine power options. Each is also specifically designed for a slightly different lifestyle on the water. Let’s dive a little deeper.

The base SWITCH models are more value-oriented for families who might be looking to share those first adventures on the water together.
The SWITCH SPORT is geared more for the crew that wants to live life in the wake. It comes fully equipped for watersport fun with standard features like an inflatable tube holder, rearview mirror, ski mode for that perfect pull and rear swim platform for easily entering and exiting the water.

The SWITCH CRUISE is a fresh take on the summer relaxation station. If you want to entertain or are seeking the ultimate in comfort, convenience and style, the Cruise is where you should be looking. Standard features here include BRP audio system to set the mood, standard Bimini top for relaxing in the shade, and rear swim platform for those sandbar tie-ups.

What size SWITCH should you get?

This is a common question and there are a few variables to consider when finding your answer. The base SWITCH comes in three sizes: 13, 16 and 19 feet. The Sport comes in 13, 18 and 21 feet. The Cruise is available in 18 or 21 feet. Consider the following when making your selection:

  • How many people do you typically think you’ll have on board? SWITCH pontoon capacity is rated from 5 up to 9 people on board, depending on the size you select. If you’ve got a bigger crew, you’ll obviously need a bigger size.

  • Do you plan on towing your SWITCH a lot? Smaller SWITCH pontoons are light enough, you may be able to tow them with a family size SUV. The longer lengths require a truck. If you plan on trailering and launching a lot, a smaller size might best fit your needs.

  • Where will you store your SWITCH pontoon? If you live on the lake or have a marina to keep it at, a larger model is probably a great choice. If you plan to store your SWITCH in a garage or are adding to an already crowded dock, smaller models take up less space.

What engine is the right size for you?

This question really comes down to two factors: How do you plan to use your SWITCH and how many passengers do you plan on hosting?

For starters, all SWITCH pontoons are powered by a Rotax 1630 ACE 4-stroke engine. They are clean, efficient and have a sterling reputation for durability. Now, this engine comes in a few different available power options depending on the model you select. The base SWITCH models offer either 100- or 170-horsepower options. The SWITCH SPORT lets you choose from 170 or 230 horsepower. The SWITCH CRUISE offers all three options: 100, 170 or 230 HP.

If you’re the all-day adventure type who plans on hopping from sandbar to beach to waterside oasis, and you want to get there quickly, you’ll want to go with the bigger power options. These types of adventures typically require carrying more people and extra cargo. More power definitely helps when adding more weight on board. Similarly, if you’ve got adrenaline junkies along for the ride, you’ll want the larger engine options for all those trips around the water pulling skiers and tubers.

If you’re the type who simply enjoys a relaxing evening sunset cruise, the smaller engine size is more than enough to satisfy. Likewise, if you’re doing a lot of trailering lake hopping for a quick afternoon swim with the kids, the 100- or 170-HP will more than meet your needs.

Now that you’ve got a better understanding of some things to consider when choosing the SWITCH pontoon that’s perfect for you, be sure to check out all the available options and find the ride that’s just right.
